About

Music is my life

"I picked up my first instrument when I was three living in Japan. My first performance was at the age of 6. There has never been a single moment of my life in which I wanted to do anything but music. I love performance, I love teaching, and I love sharing my passion with my students."

About Jennifer Tyler

I have my degree in vocal performance and minor in jazz. I began voice lessons at age eight. I am a mezzo-soprano and teach both male and female students. I have performed in several opera productions including but not limited to The Marriage of Figaro, Dido and Aeneas, Tenderland, and Hand of Bridge. I have worked and performed in masterworks by Brahms, Chopin, Mozart and Haydn to name a few. I studied in French, English, Spanish, Italian, and German. I studied diction, ear training, piano, music history, pedagogy, and music theory. I have taken master classes with artists such as Bobby McFerrin, Jane Monheit, Kurt Elling and New York Voices. I spent a summer in Dr. Steve Zegree's Vocal Jazz Camp, learning from him and other great teachers and artists including Cedric Dent from Take 6.

I am a member of Music Teachers National Association and Virginia Music Teachers Association. I sing with Fairfax Choral Arts Society’s Vocal Arts Ensemble and have performed with Mothers to Mothers and Fairfax Symphony Opera Chorus. I have also adjudicated All-District Choir auditions for Loudoun County, and All State Choir auditions for Virginia. I was the vocal director for Farmwell Station’s production of Hairspray. I am currently the vocal director for Independence High School’s Musical Theatre program. I am also co-author for an adaptation of Spoon River Project.
